Ask HN: How will 6G change enterprise networking in the next decade?

6G is still in the early research phase, but it promises massive changes in speed, latency, and connectivity. I’m interested in hearing from network engineers and IT professionals: how do you think 6G will reshape enterprise networking over the next 10 years? What new opportunities or challenges do you foresee?

Exactly the same way as 5G did.

I feel it’s both similar and different this time around. While 6G rollout will face challenges much like 5G—such as infrastructure upgrades and security—what sets it apart is the era of artificial intelligence we’re entering. AI won’t just optimize network management and resource allocation; it will enable real-time predictive maintenance, dynamic traffic routing, and autonomous security threat detection. These capabilities could significantly reduce downtime and improve efficiency but also require new skill sets and raise concerns about AI decision transparency and control. So, while some challenges echo 5G’s, the complexity and scale introduced by AI integration make 6G a fundamentally different beast.
